Hi!
HAPPY MLK DAY! Hope you had a great Monday reflecting on his legacy and the change he brought to our society.

This is about to be a long post so, let's go!
✨
Back in December, my family and I went to the LACMA museum and IT. WAS. AMAZING!!!!!!!!
I haven't been to LACMA since I was like 6 and I haven't been to an actual museum in God knows when so I was so pumped to go! We were specifically going for the Kehinde Wiley exhibit for his and Amy Sherald's famous Obama portraits.
As I said, I hadn't been to a museum in forever...and I also hadn't worn an interesting outfit in forever....so....
Please ignore the fact that I look like a deranged, punk rock Russian doll...
Don't ask me what I was going for because I have no clue! I mainly was just trying to layer up because it was literally like 40 degrees outside that day.
π¬π Been hearing so much about this movie! Is it any good????
WE HERE.
....
I- I really don't have the words to describe the emotions I was feeling in this exhibit...
so, I'll just summarize with emojis.
*clears throat*
"π¦π€✨ππ€✊πΎπ±π΅π¦’π"
"πΈπΏ✨π«ππ€©π΅ππ¦"
Thank you for listening to my speech.
AND THERE WAS MORE AMAZING BLACK ART IN THE NEXT ROOM THAT WE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT!!!!!
(I will try my best to get all of the artist's paintings right, but if I don't include the name that means I couldn't find it.)
Amy Sherald
Unfortunately unknown
Mickalene Thomas: The Inversion of Rachel
I said I think this painting is called Hamilton meets Parliament Funkadelic πππ
Titus Kaphar: Behind the Myth of Benevolence Kehinde Wiley
Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge sucker for vintage black women. This made me want to cry!!!
Probably my favorite picture from the day!
We also happened to stumble upon a Yoshitomo Nara exhibit too! (You've probably seen his art on grungey, j-fashion Pinterest boards before...)
THESE ARE ALL OF HIS CHILDHOOD RECORDS!!!!!!!!
Mumps, 1996I don't think words can describe how much I love their little stubby hands and feet.
In the Milky Lake/ Thinking One, 2011
So soft.
π
As we all know...there has been a new Spiderman movie...
AND LORD KNOWS I WANTED TO SEE IT LIKE CRAZY.
So much so, that I put together a whole outfit and everything.
Hey Marvel *cough* if you need someone to be like a...female variant version of Mile morales....um please....call me.
πΈThe "web earrings" are actually made from hot glue!πΈ
I went to see the movie a few weeks after it came out, y'know so I didn't have to encounter the crazy, goes-to-see it-the-second-it-drops, Tom Holland obsessed, super fans. (no offense)
Without saying any spoilers about the movie, all I have to say is that it was LITERALLY AMAZING and if you are a big Marvel fan, you really, really don't wanna miss the movie because it holds a lot of important information for the next film.
It has big turning points for Peter and his life, showing him growing up even more and adapting to his "hero-hood" along with his regular life.
Also, bring tissue...
That is all.
PLUS some Miles themed fan art I made with the new markers I got for Christmas! Her name is Michaela Morales and she's a female OC of the original Miles! (MARVEL CALL ME!)
π»
One of the biggest topics towards the ending of 2021 was mainly who was your top artist/genre for your Spotify unwrapped...so here was mine!
Apparently if my life was a movie (which it is. enneagram 4 stuff) this would be the soundtrack!
This song is literally SO GOOD. I'm obsessed with really good, grungey heavy guitar songs so this was a repeat for those day that I wanted to be super emo and stuff.
This is my go-to princess-core pampering song for most of my classical playlists and I was listening it to it a lot while I was trying to read 'Pride and Prejudice'!
More rock! I found Tamar-Kali while trying desperately to find POC rock artists. I ended up finding her on someone else's playlist and I kept listening to this song again & again. I listened to this mostly in October when I was going through my "Bella Swan Fall" phase.
I'm not really suprised that this was my top song because I had created a morning playlist for Autumn last year. I would play it every morning from September-October and this was the first song on the playlist! Love Lady Day!
Lol, these were other songs from the Playlist!
Huh, this was good to know. I stopped listening to sad songs last year because SURPRISE, They make things worse!
If you're wondering if I own a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses, don't because I own 2 pairs ππ
I believe what this say about me is
#1: I'm a vintage-head.
#2: I'm an indie skater.
#3 I'm a sad romantic poet.
#4 Guitars makes me sleepy.
#5 I wish I lived in a cottage in the woods.
All of which are true!
So yeah, my top artist was: BILLIE HOLIDAY!
π
Heres some songs that have been on repeat as of recent:
1. Paper Bag - Fiona Apple (I'm literally listening to it while I'm writing this right now.)
2. Weird Fishes/Apreggi - Radiohead
3. Nineteen - Pinkpanthress
4. All I Need - Radiohead
5. Inventible - Lauren Daigle
6. Limp - Fiona Apple
7. Noticed I cried - Pinkpanthress
8. Drew Barrymore - SZA

So...I finally saw ENCANTO....
OH MY GOSH IT WAS SO GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH.
I've said before that I'm a big fan of Lin Manuel and his writing + Disney just equals one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen I think in my life!!!!!
The Characters. (Dolores is my fav!!!)
The Animations.
The POC Representation.
THE MUSIC...
I've been singing "We Don't Talk About Bruno" for like 3 weeks now, so that should be enough to say that I liked it. Also, just the overall message of everyone trying to be perfect in a broken family was just so deep for your typical children's movie and so important these days.
Disney, ya killed it with this one.
100/10

I'm a big anime fan and have been for a while now, but to be completely honest it's really hard for me to find an anime that will really make me want to binge it because of the specificities of the genres I like.
I like Magical Girl anime...but mainly only Sailor Moon and Glitter Force. (The others get too weird.)
I like Romance, ShΕjo anime....but not when it involves tsundere characters.
I like Superhero Anime...but only the ones that came out more recently
You see what I mean? I can barely find anything to watch without looking at Reddit lists for hours.
For a while I've seen 'Kamisami Kiss' being recommended to me on Hulu and I've heard a lot about the mangaka so I decided to watch it!
OH MY GOSH, I LOVE IT!
It's the prefect fantasy, ShΕjo, rom-com anime that I've basically been looking for!
The plot is really strange but it's mainly based on Japanese mythology and the concept of Japanese "yokai"(animal spirits).
Nanami is a homeless high schooler until she accepts an offer to live at a shrine - making her the new local "god". With her handsome fox Yokai (Toemoe), Nanami learns the ins and outs of "godhood" and meets more Yokai.
It's litrally one of the funniest anime I've ever watched probably besides Ouran. So, if you like OHC definitely watch this!
Also, Toemoe is FINE!
I MEAN, LOOK AT HIS LITTLE FOX EARS!!!! (Wish he would cut his nails though)
Also Misuki is so precious. (Protect him at all costs!)
π
If you read my 2022 post, I showed a few books that I wanted to read this year and I finally picked a few of them up!
The main thing that all of these books have in common is that they're YA teen books (2 are romance) with female black main characters! I've always liked YA stories and for a while it was hard to find books with characters that looked like me with the plot of like a "kissing booth" or like "The Duff." I believe that tons of other authors felt this way and now when I search up "Black YA teenage books" SO MUCH comes up!
I believe my first introduction to YA romance was when I watched "To all the Boys" in 2020. (I know...I was kinda late to the party.) The main reason why I wasn't into it before was mainly because I've always hated those cliche movies about a "nerdy teen girl" who doesn't fit into school and falls in love with the school jockey, only to find out the he's dating the school Regina George and when the nerdy girl goes to her sassy black friend for help, she gives her a makeover that makes her completely! ✨Unrecognizable ✨ So, when she walks into the room, everybody turns their head and goes "WhO's ThAt????" and the school jockey goes to dance with her while his girlfriend stomps away AND THEY LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER!
After I found out that not every teen book and movie has that plot I WENT ON AN ADVENTURE trying to find as many interesting, sweet and funny YA books with realistic characters as I could!
I've said before that I love Lara Jean and she's probably one of the few fictional characters that I actually relate to!
On the day that I picked up my books, I decided to put on a cute, LJ inspired, outfit to go with the ~vibes~
I wasn't wearing the purple cat socks to the library but their so comfortable that I probably could've.
My Peter Kravinski petitions will start Monday!
Once I finish the books the reviews will come really, really soon!
I've already started reading "I Wanna Be Where You Are" and so far I really like it! If you enjoy "enemies to lovers" type stories, this is a good read.
πΏ
Alllllright!
That's everything!
Thanks for reading this post and ♡Bless you little blackbirds!♡
Love, Brooklyn Jean
