Hello dear friends and kindred spirits.
*cough* sorry, anyway!
So, anybody who knows me knows that for whatever reason, I am a sucker for 1700's - early 1800s European fashion, movies and books...
The reason why you ask?
This post would be way too long if I say the whole reason...
To summarize it down to a list:
✨
1. The big, fluffy lace dresses, nightgowns and clothes in general,
2. The Rococo and Baroque interior style,
3. The old and dramatic way of speaking,
4. The poetry and writing in general,
5. The juicy and romantic books/story lines without extreme amounts of profanity (if you aren't talking about "Bridgerton...")
6. Men in 1700s attire (you know what I'm talking about...)
7. Those scenes in movies where the female protagonist just runs through a field in a white dress, smiling,
8. The art,
9. The Music,
10. The history,
And lastly... The dresses
So, that's basically all the reasons I have summarized!
It's definitely kind of hard to love this era of fashion/history as a person of color, because their's a 100% chance that you won't see ANY characters that look like you.
Like, why can't I be in a 1700's romance film where I'm a duchess who lives in a castle in the countryside! Or a ballet dancer who falls in love with a mysterious man that lives under the opera house and wears a mask? (I've been watching too much Phantom...)
As far as Historical accuracy goes for poc in period piece films, I honestly feel like there are so many historically accurate films now that I think it's okay to start making stories that can be fictional and create new, never seen story lines.
Thanks to shows and movies like "Bridgeton," ''Anne Boleyn'', 'Belle'', ''The Spanish Princess'' and even "Hamilton." People of color are now able to see themselves in these situations and eras where they can actually be things like aristocrats and royalty instead of servants or just commoners.
I've always wanted to see myself in stories like this which I why I actually like to write period piece stories with poc in my free time!
I wanted to kind of show who I would be in a "Pride and Prejudice" type of story as an African American girl, so without further a do...

Family/Family Relationships
Her Mother and Father are the Duchess and Duke of Sussex. She has no siblings but her best friend, Elise often stays with them so they're kind of like sisters.
Mother
Her relationship with her mother is pretty good! They are very close and her Mother doesn't judge Amirah's curious or sometimes "silly" behavior. They have alot of inside jokes.
Father
Her relationship with her father is alright. Her and her father love each other, but he wants Amirah to be less bold and more reserved and quiet. Amirah kind of just ignores it and continues being herself.
Elise
Elise is Amirah's best friends and partner in crime. She is also the daughter of a Duke and lives in Sussex, not too far from Amirah. She's very funny, introverted, and strong. Her and Amirah often laugh together, talking about fairytales and gossip about things in the kingdom and sometimes laugh at boys.
